How to Make Your Own Fruit Juice

If you love fruit then fruit juices are probably part of your diet. You can get a plethora of ready made juices and juice combinations--from freshly squeezed juices to various mixtures and concentrations. But sooner or later you will come to the idea of making your own juice. This is pretty simple. You only need some fruit (or vegetables) and the right juicer.

There are few types of juicers, each is made for some types of fruit or vegetables. Unless you will be satisfied with manually squeezed oranges you will need a power juicer. Before you go for shopping you need to know some basic information. In general, there are centrifugal, masticating and citrus juicers.

The Dangers of Fruit Juice

Citrus Juicers

This is the simplest type of juicer intended to squeeze juice from oranges, limes, lemons and grapefruits. Most of them operate by pressing a citrus half to the rotating screw which squeezes out the juice. Some have a lever to help squeezing the fruit while with the cheaper models you will have to press the fruit manually. To benefit from all nutrients you should drink the juice as soon as possible. One of the interesting nutrients in citrus fruit is pectin--it is a soluble fiber recommended for high cholesterol diets.

Centrifugal Juicers

This is the most popular type of juicers. Centrifugal juicers have a drum with blades which rotates at high speeds. The spinning forces the juice away from the fruit or vegetable pulp. The juice then simply pours into a container. Some juicers have also a pulp ejector which removes squeezed pulp from the rotating drum, otherwise you have to remove it manually. Centrifugal juicers can be used for almost any type of vegetable and fruit. The only exceptions are grassy and leafy foods. The difference between various models is in the size of the feeder, the motor power or rotating speed and additional features like pulp ejector.

Masticating Juicers

They work by first masticating the fruit and then squeezing it to get the juice out. This type of juicer is suitable for any kind of fruits or vegetables. They can also be used to squeeze frozen fruit or to make nut butter. The only drawback of masticating juicers is higher price. They came in various sizes and with various motor power ranges and additional features. If you are a fruit juice addict then such juicer will satisfy all your needs.
